AGAINST THE FORMER PRESIDENT. NEAR YOU THIS MORNING, $64 MILLION IN FEDERAL FUNDING GOING TO PLUG ORPHANED GAS AND OIL WELLS. AND THIS IS SPECIFICALLY FOR WELLS INSIDE OF NATIONAL PARKS, FOREST AND WILDLIFE REFUGES. KOCO’S AUDREY GOODSON, SHE’S LIVE THIS MORNING WITH THE DETAILS ON THE DOLLARS COMING TO OKLAHOMA. AUDREY, GOOD MORNING, KYLIE AND ALEJANDRA GOOD MORNING. PRESIDENT BIDEN SAYING THIS IS A NEW STEP IN ADDRESSING LEGACY POLLUTION NATIONWIDE. THAT FUNDING WILL HELP FIGHT THE DAMAGE DONE BY THOUSANDS OF NON PRODUCING WELLS. IT’S ALSO EXPECTED TO ENHANCE SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY, AS WELL AS JUST CREATE MORE JOBS HERE IN OKLAHOMA. WE KNOW 45 OF THOSE ORPHANED WELLS WILL BE PLUGGED IN AT THE DEEP FOREST FORK NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE, AND THAT’S ABOUT AN HOUR AND A HALF EAST OF THE METRO. IT IS A HUGE INVESTMENT IN TERMS OF DOLLARS GOING TO THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA TO PLUG AND SEAL THE ORPHANED OIL AND GAS WELLS. THIS INITIAL INVESTMENT IS GOING TO THE WILDLIFE REFUGES AND THE NATIONAL PARKS AND IT WILL GO TO DOZENS OF THOSE SITES IN AND AROUND OKLAHOMA. OFFICIALS SAY UNPLUGGED ORPHAN WELLS CAN LEAK METHANE, WHICH IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD THAT EXPERTS SAY CONTRIBUTES TO CLIMATE CHANGE ACROSS THE NATION.
