Could the iPhone soon incorporate OpenAI technology? Apple is in talks with the artificial-intelligence firm about new features coming to iOS 18, the next iPhone operating system, later this year, Bloomberg reports, citing anonymous sources. The companies reportedly discussed a deal earlier this year, but progress had been "minimal" since. Meanwhile, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman says that there's "a strong possibility" the iPad Pro will be armed with the M4 chip and not the M3. The new iPad, along with the iPad Air, Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil, will be revealed on May 7, per Gurman.

  • Apple is also still in contact with Google about potentially licensing its Gemini chatbot, and hasn't made a final decision on which AI system it will use.
  • A partnership with an existing AI company could help Apple avoid some liability, adds Bloomberg.
